The intent of this design is to strengthen the connections between the local community and Woolmet Bing through improvement of access, provision of enhanced play features, inclusion of sculptural elements and sensitive site management for the benefit of both people and wildlife.
Development and change will be managed sensitively to ensure that the bing continues to act as a green node, contributing to the green belt and connecting the city centre and surrounding green spaces. Established grassland and woodland walks provide the opportunity for people to reconnect with nature contributing to the health and wellbeing of residents.
スコットランドには炭鉱跡地が点在し、ここウールメットは廃棄物が積まれ、小高い丘になっています。エディンバラ市郊外にある立地条件から、住宅地、商工業地を含めた開発計画に入る地域です。既存と新しい住宅地がそれぞれ孤立せず、融合する地域作りの中心としてこの緑地の新たな役割を提案しています。都市計画で指定されているGreen node（集点、節）の役割、緑の回廊が都市中心と郊外緑地を繋ぐ役割を果たしながら、より利用しやすい緑地としてアクセスの向上、遊具の設置や野生動植物との共生を図れる管理姿勢を盛り込んでいます。廃棄物の上は土壌が薄く草原になっていますが、すでにランの群生も広がり、人の手を加えすぎない緑化が進んでいます。新たに散策路を整備することにより地域住民の自然との触れ合い、健康増進にも繋がっていきます。
